any help..
my dvd drive wont recognise that theres a dvd in it jus says please insert disc when i double click on the D drive icon...
cd's are alrite but not dvd's...
any suggestions? happens all the time

for dvd movies i use...
either
media player
power dvd
or interactual player
it worked once but was skippy as hell.. shudnt be for a 1800xp?

lol havnt got a lense cleaning kit unless theres a pish easy way 2 do it...
tried putting it in the rewriter it doesnt even say theres a cd in it?

Probably skippy as hell due to high activity in background apps.
Best to try a DVD lens cleaner first as 2zero said, if that fails, ill go through deleting the ide controllers so XP does a clean sweep, cos it mite not be recognizing the drive as a DVD drive anymore..

using j++ processer view those idle controllers use alot of processor power.. what exactly they do?

IDE controllers, they control your hard disks + any other IDE drives eg dvd/cdrw drives ect
