Right when you get an engine conversion you need an engineers report for the insurance company right? How much do these usually cost?? £100-£200?? I gather there are a few in the old Yellow Pages
Also i know i can ask the engineer this but i was just wondering..
If i have drum brakes at the rear now and get an engine in which the car it came from had rear discs do i need them?
I mean say the corsa with an XE...Because even the highest spec corsa(GSI) never had disc brakes you don't need to fit them? But because the Astra has disc brakes higher up the spec would i need to have some fitted or will the engineer let it go??

Not too sure about this one, but it's what Ive heard also & the engineer's report is also for updating the V5 document I think, so yeah prices seem to be right, but all they do is just make sure the engine thats in is what you say it is & that its not going to fall out!

No there not required, you can still keep the standard corsa brakes all over if you want (not really recommended), so just upgrade the front to ATE or V6, or some nice Hi-Spec jobbies if your wallet can reach that far! It only matters that the brakers you have, no matter what size, aren't deffective in anyway & do the job there designed to

I will have to uprate the brakes and suspension anyways

I have to get a full rear beam for mine Daimo that's all More expense for not much extra braking power.Bigger front discs will do the job i rekon

LET!!
2.2, good engine, no point though.
2.0, great engine, very strong, but costs ££ to tune.
V6, bags of grunt, bags of torque, great Mway cruiser
LET, fast, can be made very very fast for cheapos.

LET would be the either the Z(ecotec) or the calibra one.Ecotec is sooooooo much less hassle to fit but the older is faster and more tunable I don't really want such an old engine in my car though TBH..
2.2 and the 2L would also be Eco's out of the MK4 Astra
V6 is tempting..is the 2.6 one better than the 2.5 though?

2.0 16V I would say, relatively cheap, nearly any coach works could do the conversion and some decent power can be gained out of them.
LET, would love one but with all that power traction is a problem, as Daimo said its fast and loads of power can be made from it for little £££'s.

Makarus the LET seems to be mega money to buy AND fit though and i don't think i could stretch that far It would have to be the 2.2 over the 2L i rekon also..
What gearbox is in the V6 anyone?

2.2 is a good basis engine. 145ft lb of torque, more than a standard Redtop!!
I've still heard of people starting already to get over 230bhp from em too!
