It might not want to write message history unless you're authenticated? Is the drive NTFS?

this was microsoft suggestion last nite
Hello,
Thank you for writing to MSN Messenger Support.
This is Chelli and I am glad to assist you on how to enable that option to save your instant message conversations.
I suggest that to correct your problem, you need to do clean install. With this procedure, you need to uninstall>reboot>install.
Here is how to:
1. Before uninstalling MSN Messenger from Microsoft Windows XP, you must first close your Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook programs.
2. Click the MSN Messenger icon in the taskbar, and then click "Sign Out".
3. Click the Windows "Start" button, click on "Control Panel".
4. Double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
5. Select "MSN Messenger " from the list and click the "Change/Remove" button.
6. Restart your computer to take effect.
7. Download MSN Messenger again at http://messenger.msn.com/Download/
Should you have any other queries with MSN Messenger, please feel free to contact us.
For additional online help, please go to:
