what would happen if the ohms of the speakers are not the same as the ohms of the amp? would they still work?

If the ohms of the speaker are greater than, that which the amp pushes out it should be ok but will get quieter with the higher resistance of the speaker. If the speaker is lower rated than the amp it will be VERY loud and you risk setting fire/damaging the amp, so get it right!! Why do u ask?

To get the best efficiency outta your amp, run it at its limits! If its 2ohm stable, run it at 2ohms if you have the capability to wire the load down to that, or 1ohm, 1/2ohm or some crazy American amps which go down to 1/4ohm
