Pop star Britney Spears has married a childhood friend during an apparently impromptu wedding ceremony Saturday in Las Vegas.

Spears married Jason Alexander at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Las Vegas strip early Saturday, according to press reports.

Spears reportedly walked down the aisle by a Palms Hotel bellman. Sunday tabloid, News of the World printed a copy of the marriage licence obtained by the couple in Nevada Clark County.

A spokesman for the chapel said: "We have signed a confidentiality agreement and cannot confirm of deny anything."

Both Spears and Alexander are 22.
