hi all, on monday i had a Toad ai606 alarm fitted.
the guy put the alarm L.E.D. light on/in the mfd unit, so i had to take the mfd unit out so he could drill a hole for it. and yesterday i noticed that the mfd aint workin properly!
1st of all the memory wernt workin, every time i turned the car on i had to reset the time and date, and also the mfd was only lit up wen i had my car head lamps on (like the dash the mfd should be lit up all the time!) so i checked the fuse (which is for the dash lights as well!) and that was obviously fine coz the dash lights r workin!
so i checked that the plug at the back of the mfd was connected properly (as its a bit fidderly/dodgy) and then i tried it agin but this time its worst! nothing works at all!
so i took the bulbs out and they had gone, so i went to vauxhall and got some new ones (cost 5.72 for bulbs and holders! )
so next i fitted the new bulbs and again nothing works at all!
so i took the mfd unit out of it holder and i noticed the plug socket is a bit dodgy, so i took it apart and noticed the 12 odd pins from the socket that connect to the circuit board are very loose! and the solder aint holding it firmly anymore, but the pins still all make contact, just about.
so i am hoping this is the problem.
iv phoned a m8 (Corsa_GSi) and im meetin her at 5 this evening, and my plan is to put my mfd unit in her car, and if it doesnt work then i know i need a new one, but if it does work then it means its the wiring to the mfd in my car that is the problem!
i also phoned up the guy who fitted my alarm, and he said that its nout to do with the alarm! and that if theres no memory then it must be to do with the live wire he also said that it was me who took th emfd unit out (which is true) but he reconnected the plug to it and i think he struggled, maybe makin the plug very loose like it is now
i think this is the problem, and il find out soon hopefuly, in which case il go to a scrapy to get a new mfd.
any other idea to wat it could be?
cheers,
james

Happerned to me too.
Turned out that the plug on the back was broke even though it appeared fine. I soldered it back together but it still didn't work.
So I went to scrappy and got another one complete with plug still attached. I then connected to my car MFD loom. Works a treat.

You paid £5.70 for the two bulbs You could have fitted leds for less than that.

u didnt read correctly what i said...

i could have bought the old type (the bulb is stuck in the holder but it was 1 pound cheaper) and with the new style holders you can change the bulbs, so i thought i may as well pay 1 pound more, so that in the future if i av to change the mfd bulbs it will only cost about 20p instead of 4pounds odd!
oh and now i need a new mfd, so wen i get another one, hopefully the bulbs wil be fine, in which case il take the ones i bought today and get my money back

I did read correctly...you could of had enough leds fitted in holders to do the dials and mfd for hat price.

erm no u didnt read correctly, coz a Led bulb will not fit in it as i would need to buy the new style bulb holder anyway!
the bulb holder r 2pounds each, so thats 4 pounds then the price of 2 Led bulbs on top, and i gues the Led bulbs cost more than standard bulbs!
so
and back to the main question...does anyone have a spare mfd?

Well i just bought a set of leds for a £5 for the MFD and the dials so hows that more expensive wen they just plug straight in?

well actaully its 3.72 for the bulb holders and the vaux bulbs r expensive obviously, could get the bulbs from normal shop for about 20p each, so its about 4.20 (less than 5 pounds!)
but i take it back i assumed the Leds fitted into the bulb holders, obviously not! unless u lot have newer corsas than me, coz i think from about 95 onwards corsas had the new style mfd bulb holders, unlike me!
it doesnt matter anyway
anyone have a spare mfd?

The leds come complete with holders and will look exactly like the bulbs you just bought, just like the pic below.
I might have an mfd here, but i'll have to check it works.

oh right, i was mistaken, sorry lol i assumed the Leds were just a bulb! (and not a bulb and holder!) silly me
yea man, it would be great if u did av a spare one
all i actually need is the circuit board inside the black rectangular mfd box(which has the plug socket on, coz my plug socket is fecked!)
cheers,
