hello bit of trouble...
got a file that i needed deleted completely and sent it to the recycle bin. but recycle bin has been password protected so cant be deleted fully... any way of getting into it and deleting???

you not have access to the administrator account? (only if running XP / 2k)
whats locking the recycle bin? (something must be protecting it, as you cant do this as normal)

havent a clue, not my comp... somebody else has something that really shouldnt be seen by someone close! if you know what i mean

ok
if its Windows 9x/ME, make a boot disk (if you cant, goto www.bootdisk.com and download a windows 98 boot disk), then restart the computer booting from the floppy disc, when at the A:\> prompt, type...
C:\
CD RECYCLED (i think)
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ATTRIB -H -R -S *.*
DEL *.*
If your running Windows XP Home, then when you turn on the computer, keep pressing F8 until you get a boot menu, and then go into safe mode. When the user screen comes up, either select Administrator (if its a grasphical log in), otherwise type Administrator into the username box, but dont enter a password, this will give you admin access, and not load anything up, then try empty the recycle bin.
If your on windows 2k / XP Professional your buggered!

i've never heard of a recycle bin being locked? try restarting computer, that sometimes helps things

when in win9x/ME, the folder may be called RECYCLER instead of RECYCLED, so would be worth checking

if you can restore the file from the recycle bin just move it to a location that no one will look in like c:\windows\system32 etc
if your running xp home use the command line
ie: del c:\badfile.doc
if you can get hold of norton systemworks there is a utility on there that deletes anything doesnt matter pass protected its call norton wipe or something like that

Send loads of big files to the bin! I sometimes find this causes it to delete stuff automatically.

or just send loads of little files - preferably similarily named things... Thus it'll get losts in the endless list of small files...
i.e. image1, image2, image3, etc...
that way they have to actually look closely to find it - rather than seeing 1 file sitting there.

Has it got a little N by it? It may be Norton-protected
