i read somewhere (total vox i think) that you can use the 20let gaskets on the xe, as these are stronger, and also do you/can you use a f20 gear box with the xe (is this 6speed?)

Gaskets will fit but will be thicker so will lower the compression slightly.
F20 box came on the astra GSi (I think) and was the closest ration box they fitted to this engine. F28 is the 6 speeder. It will fit but you'll need a front wheel drive conversion kit!

F20 was on astra GSi, GTE (16v), cav GSi 2000, calibra 16v (when fitted with a C20XE and not an X20XE)

my f20 seems very close  pops through the gears very quickly the throw is a bit long tho.... need a short shift kit
