let it go, cos if you do get it and finally cant insure it (likely) you will be distraught by selling it (like me and my Gsi at 17)

Ask elephant or Adrain Flux.
Also, insure ur parents as the first drivers til ur 21.
Or buy a £50 bangor and get insured on that as the first driver.
Than you will be able to drive any car with the owners permission. As you own the GTi-R this wont be a problem.

You cannot own the car you are driving third party on your own insurance. If they had bothered to read their insurance documents they would find this out. When they try to claim they will get laughed at. Then prosecuted.

Firstly the gtir would have to be insured in the first place (probbaly under his parents name) secondly even if he bought a fiat 126 and paid £100 a year insurance it doesn't mean to say that the company inusring you would cover you to drive other insured cars....

if youre insured on your own policy with a car, you can drive another car tpft as long as someone else owns it and insures it.
But then its more costs,

not necesarilly not unless either the car u wana drive e.g the gtir is insured with a 'any driver policy' in which case u don't need the shed, also if you insure the shed it does not necessarily mean u are covered to drive any car, for example my policy does not enable me to drive any other car cos' i'm not 21 (that's just with admiral)

a Lot of companys wont insure you to drive third party on someone elses car, until you are 25....
The only way you'll get it *cheap* is to be a named driver on your mum or dads..
Or alternatively a trade policy?
Move to the country.. im in the middle of nowhere and pay a grand on an Integra type R.. at 19 I was payin £780 on a prelude vtec.

this is not nessecarily true, you can drive another persons car (MOT'd & taxed) with their permission even if it is'nt insured by them.
but if you do drive it, you cannot leave the car unattended at anytime on a public highway otherwise you can get done.
i went thru all this with my insurance company when i had the loan of an MX6 for a month

www.confused.com
add yer mum as a named driver.
NEVER add someone else as 1st driver or you won't rack up your NCD... A few hundred extra now will save you more hundreds spread over many years later down the line. my bro has a 1.8 impreza GL and its his first car, cost him 800 comp aged 28 cos he's always been named on my cars. had he got his own cover for a little car, and just left it to rust in the garden thus getting 5yrs ncd or more he'd have paid just £280. a little mini on tpo for 200 a year would have cost him a grand to rack that up. it'll cost him about 2 grand in additional premiums over the next 5 years to make that up...
if you MUST get your parents to cover it (bearing in mind the policy rates on tyhe youngest driver and they can't use any NCD on it if already tied to another vehicle so will be almost as dear) then buy a little reliant kitten or something and wodge it in the back on TPO cover and get some NCD built up.
The "Driving Other Cars" extension typically covers you THIRD PARTY ONLY (they need their own F&T cover to cover these aspects). As Gambit says tho, no way can it be parked anywhere but off-road or on private land.
However, as screaming vtec says, most won't offer DOC until aged 25.
