got myself a new battery from halfords. told it would fit no problem even though its really big. Put it in place but i cant manage to get that battery clamp thing over it and secured. its bloody impossible. Tried for hours, so fiddly - no space at all to work with. I'm thinking of going back to halfords and saying the battery is too big and gettin a smaller one in exchange. ANy comments?

no the battery should be bolted down, please dont give people information that you know nothing about. and could potetially be hazardous.

the battery will move about if not bolted down, this can lead to all sorts of out comes. bolt it down, the clap may need slight modification.

if not take the battery back in and get them to check it, or take the car`down and get them to take a look.

nice thaks for that. if the battery moves this can lead to damage to the car and/or battery. if you (or he) want to do that then thats up to you.

abuse is not called for

If it's not bolted down whos to say that tomorrow at 80 mph, it decides to come loose and fall out?

If your lucky you could drive around for years and it not fall out, someone else may not be so lucky...

lol.... is there room for a big battery to fall out of an engine? lol

Mindu, it might be more of a hazard for maybe people with pecker 1.2 engines but theres certainly no space for my battery to go anywhere in my engine bay!

its not that the battery will fall out

but if accelerating away quickly it will hit the bulkhead but not cause too much damage but when braking hard it will move forward and being very heavy will eventually dent the bonnet / grill very badly. So its a major safety issue to clamp the battery down.

Anyway take the battery back, i bought mine from Halfords and its a perfect fit did u not look in the little books they have by parts

Maybe some people have to have 1.2 'pecker' engines as they are unable to afford insurance etc..

You can secure the battery with air elastics if you can't fit the clamp.... or some sort of nylon strap.
