well if the crankshaft sensor is'nt working, it won't provide a spark, meaning it won't start

My crank sensor went on my 52 plate Sxi, the limiter kicked in at 4,000rpm and it felt like it had pretty much no power

crank shaft sensor went on my C16XE about 2 years ago. It would run but with the ECU in 'get you home mode'. Sounded terrible and it was limited to 4K rpm. It would start but it took about 10 secs of cranking to get it to go. There was no warning it just suddenly went. ECU light comes on. Flashing out the error code shows error code 19. New one was about £35 from Vauxhall. Was a bit of a bugger to fit cos the connection to the loom is under the upper inlet manifold then it routes down the back of the engine to the crank pulley.

My X16XE would run without it!
Uses the cam shaft sensor as a backup.
In process of diagnosing faults i disconnected it.
Didn't run as bad as i thought it would, had another problem which i couldn't trace properly, hence DTA ecu went in.
Never had a problem when i put the standard ECU back in though, only thing that i could come up with was a dodgy ICE wire which was arcing across the fuse terminals and causing electrical surges.....
