Anybody raced a Golf GTI 8v in their 1.6?? I was reading performance figures for all the Golf GTI's Mk1,2,3 and so on. They are all quite close with the old 8v being quicker than the newer ones. There really dosnt seem much in it between the Mk3 GTI 2.0 and my 8v.

The Golf GTi 1.8 8v is still a quick car, i rallied one the other year
I also raced one in my old 1.4 Sport and it killed me!

the gti mk4 has to be the slowest of them all, just too heavy and its a bit of a shame that the td is better in basically every way!

You cant fail to be impressed by the power and espically the torque figures of a chipped GTTDI. My mates unc has a chipped one and going up the M2 it pulls like a mofo!
Mav> Would say the 8v is still a quick car then. I mean it only has 112bhp yet it still gets to 60 in 8ish and on to 120 std.

mk2 8v & 1.6 GSI/Sport, are more or less evenly matched in performance
112bhp vs 109bhp
both around 8.5 to 60
it'd probably come down to the driver
mk2 16v - the GSi wouldnt have a hope in hell
