winxp all working fine now, trying to share with a win98 comp, now the comp is connected to a hub, and i've connected that hub to the router, the win98 machine can see the gateway as it's got the icon for INTERNET-INTERNAL GATEWAY - COMPUTER
but i can't actually browse the internet etc..

any clues?

have you set up the win 98 box to obtain IP and DNS automatically?

look up internet connection sharing on the Microsoft knowledge base thingy.

it's ok sorted it, the problem was ipx/spx it had the ipx protocol's installed which was buggering everythign up, removed them restarted and all is now working
