Screw the Prescott. You need a vacuum cleaner of a heatsink to cool it.

AMD...

I'd get the A64 3400+ and Asus K8V. If overclocked by 7% is faster than a stock FX51, but whether you get mobile version or desktop version is up to you. (if you want to OC it, best with the mobile chip, as it runs at a lower core voltage & is multiplier unlocked unlike the regular desktop chip).

The K8V is a great board too, but flash it to the 1005 BIOS, as then RAM adjustments are VERY comprehensive, so even better to tweak! It has a VIA SATA controller, and a Promise SATA controller, and 2x IDE controllers, 8x USB 2.0, 2x Firewire, Gigabit LAN, and more features than you can shake a stick at. Looks cool too. Passive northbridge cooling, so quiet as well.

not quite were talking the Athlon 64 here!

Even the P4-Extreme Edition is par-level to the A64 in most tests, AMD beats it with gaming, P4-EE 'just' beats the A64 in stuff like Adobe Photoshop & other things which utilise SSE2...

But even though the P4-EE is based on the Northwood core, the Prescott 3.2 is slower than the P4-EE, and so that also means its slower than the A64.

Thats the P4-Extreme Edition versus Athlon 64-FX51...

tbh I'd choose the AMD over Intel anyday. I used to be an Intel junky, but there more bothered about higher clock speeds rather than MIPS... which means a 3.2ghz chip (intel) performs about the same as a 2.2GHz chip.

Oh, and as for Intels being easier to overclock than AMD's... there about the same each way, but with AMD chips, you get a better performance boost per MHz compared to intel chips
