Just got a Lreg 1400 SRI,now the big ends are on the way out so ive got that to do whitch isnt a prob for me as i can do that,but ive got a rattle @ 3k rpm it sounds like a tappit that hasent filled with oil but im not sure my boss said it could be mains but i dont think so... what do you ppl think ?
Any ideas welcome thx Jim

it could be the exhaust heat shield. it could be anything!

it hasen got 1 mate any 1 with a sri what dose the injectors sound like in the car when your driveing can you hear them quite loud? its defanitly like an engine rattle

You wont hear the injectors inside the car. Are you sure there isnt a heat shield around the down pipe?

there are 2 heat shields, the one that bolts to the block above the manifold and one that is welded to the downpipes that run under the sump its this one that rattles, the big end sounds like a dull thumping from the bottom end normally heard more when the engine is under load

yeah i know the sound of big ends they deffo going n no heat shild @ all on manifold od on down pipe the noise is like a metaly rattle like atappit or sumthing ? any1 know what main bearings sound like when they are on there way out?

well i had the main bearings go on my old engine, they went to such an extent that one piston was lightly tapping the cylinder head but you would hear this all the time probably just a hydraulic valve lifter

cheers lads the thing that gets me is that it ticks over sweet as a nut but @ 3k it taps ??? gona try sum of that forte top end treetment after i do the bottom end had it recomended to me by a mate also in the trade
(trying to find a second 8v sri engine to up in wile i sort this one so if anyones got one pls u2u me) Thx Jim

if ya doing the bottom end them while the cam belt etc is off it would be a piece of piss to whip the head off and change the lifters for new ones, i just had my C16XE re-built and i put new lifters in, its unbelivable how quiet the engine it, in fact it sounds strange when it revs

my heatshield was rattling, took it off (and cut my finger doin so ) and now have another rattle !!!!

yeah thats what im going to do i think overhall the head when i do the bottom end
