Chelsea will get him eventually, not sure if it will be as soon as they make out though.

I think he should come to Charlton. Mind you Real would have to accept £11,000,000 and he would have to shut up and make do with about £10k a week.

Yesh we must not break our wage structure
We do need to make a few decent signings from Scotty Parkers money

Why? Would of brought in £100's of millions in commercial money over the last 4 years and actually given them a chance of hitting their breakeven targets.

I think he had a bigger impact on the US because they didn't really know him there. The impact here wouldn't of been as great. Yes shirt sales would of rocketed, but not a lot more imo. He grew up in the UK and everybody knows him and his capabilities.

Would have done well for them, would certainly have made them a little more entertaining, less anti football. Also would have made them millions in merchandising as Cosmo says.

The UK market means nothing in the grand scale of things - its the exposure he'd of given them in Asia, and South America, and practically every country in the world where he is an icon. Chelsea NEED that sort of signing.
I'd still spend £40m on him now, as the shirt sales worldwide alone in the 4wks after he joins would more or less cover this cost straight away. Its the same reason Ronaldo could sell for £100m, and Ronaldinho is worth so much still.
