Canon JVC or Sony are the only makes to go for, Ive got a JVC DR-GV7000EK v nice camera. Make sure its got DV in/out, a good optical zoom (forget digital zoom) and a good batttery life.

Aye, agree....Cannon or Sony are about the best going, all the rest are alright but pretty poor from when using them to film And yea like andy said, get one with a DV Out AND IN, that way can capture stuff via firewire to your pc, but then can dump it back to the camera

However, i use loads of sony's at school for my media class and there alright as a average cam, but the picture quality is pretty shocking still If you have the cash mate, get a Cannon XL1S...will set you back about 2k or a grand second hand, but they are the cheapest semi-pro cam your gonna find, and the picture quality is MINT down to the 3 CCD's mainly. Ive only used one for a brief few minutes but there's enough stuff on it to help you shoot a small film....infact 28 days later was shot on a SL1S, so you can see how good the quality is for little money

XL1s 's are about 3.5k brand new aren't they, my mate has one and has just bought a manual lens for it I love the XM2 though and its a bargin at 1700 quid so good to use, can get some really good shots using the handle.
