What I dont understand is the fact that the heaters are working perfectly if the heater matrix was on the way out or if it was indeed broken would it the heaters be working

if it were leaking on the outlet side of the matrix, then it would still be going through the most part of it, letting the blowers go over it before the hot water leaked.

Could be any where!
Common places for cars to leak are;
Screen, not fitted properly
Bulkhead, gromit damaged or incorrectly fitted
Door seals, broken or incorrectly fitted
Easy way to find where its coming from is to get a mate with a hose pipe to spray the car in different places constantly for about 5-10 mins each. It can take upto half an hour for the leak to get through.
I've once had to sit in a car for 45 mins waiting foir it to leak cos the bloke was adimant the car was still leaking after we'd checked it twice for 10-15 mins. After 45 it started to trickle in and then got stronger.
Remember that the leak could start up high and travel down behind the panels until it appears down low!
Good Luck,

mate, you have just had the 2.0 16v fitted? the bulk head has to be modified hammered/cut to get this engine in, it could quite possibly be leaking through where the bulk head has been modified?i think they change it on the drivers side at the top just under the scuttle panel?worth looking into!

Right I think we have found the problem in the grommit, it was not in place so lets hope it was that I dont think any further water has leaked during the night so its just a case of getting the carpet dried and cleaqned up and then testing to see if any further water comes in, many thanks for all the help dont know what I would of done without you lot I certainly sh!t it when people started going on about the heater matrix and having to take out the dash, thanks again Regards Paul...
