A few years ago, we had a leased line installed at work and managed to get a <50 ping on most CS servers.
Now I get this at home.

im guessing you have broadband at home. Digital internet connections have lower pings that analogue (modems). All a ping is, is the amount of time it takes (in miliseconds) for a packet of data to get sent and received to the computer being pinged, which is often used in diagnosing problems in interent connections or seeing if remote macines are online.
