not carry your driving license with you (in your car)? Or do you have to have both documents with you at all times?

I thought this as well.
Reason i'm asking is because my dad had a bit of a heated discussion with someone in The Link who seemed to think that you were required by law to carry them with you at all times.

If you leave documents in your car and it is stolen oh dear a free car. My neighbour years agao had his M.O.T insurance and log book in his car and it was knicked. His insurance did not pay out.

Your plastic licence ain't a valid legal document on it's own. Only with the counterpart bit, is it a legal document

In the US, it's a legal requirement to carry your licence and "registration" docs in your car at all times...
