I've got a asrock K7S8X motherboard - would i be right in thinking this has a built in network card?

Take a look. If it's got a network port, chances are it does.

edit: Quick check on Google says YES it does.

yer its got a rj45 on the back according to the manual. I think its a network port just double checking?

RJ45 is Ethernet, so yes it does.
