Only had a couple of hours in Amsterdam on Friday night after work but got to see a bit of it.
Stalls by the side of the road near the centre selling bongs pipes etc. went through the red light district quite early so not much to see there, but some of the stuff in the windows of the shops was "interesting" loads of shops selling weed and other biological stuff.
If you are after a nice meal there head away from the central station down the right hand side of the river and cross over to The Grasshopper. Basement is a coffeshop, 1st floor is a pub bar, 2nd floor is more funky with some good music, 3rd floor is a lovely steakhouse, only 10 or so tables but lovely food, about 80 euro for a main course and drinks but highly recomended!
