I've decided to something to do with my car because it'll keep my interest and i wont think 'fuck it i cant be arsed with this any more' and get a shit grade.

Ask Tim mate, he made himself a smart little computer for his car, using an old screen off a Nokia 6210 or summit like that. Could try and make your own Data logger, check out this site for what i mean. www.racetechnologies.co.uk .

new set of clocks/dials for your dash? ie: make a new version of the digi-dash
hydraulic bonnet/boot opener (connected to handbrake sensor, to stop it going off whilst driving etc)

id go with a new set of dials mate, with radio sations displayed on them and data logging etc, perhaps on the install showing how the amps are powering etc etc??

I wouldn't mind a thing that uses coloured leds and replaces the bulbs in your rev counter, so can be goin along normally, and have blue tacho, then when you hit a particular voltage that corresponds to say, 5k, they'll switch to red.
Make it and I'd buy one of them of ya...
Doubt it'd have the complexity required by your course tho...

only problem i see with the new dials is if he wants to use LCDs then he will need to know C/Assembler to programme eproms/processors etc So adding stuff like data-logging would be worst, especially if you want to log stuff about the car using the ECU etc
kev - if you do go down this route and you want to get info from the ECU then do a search on google for the ECU GM name (forgotten what it is) but you can buy an interface for pc/laptop But basically, it offers a serial interface and you simply supply ASCII commands and get info back...would be alot easier than doing your own thing Plus have a search on Migweb as there was a bloke called Dom designing a new MDF unit to offer lots of info etc etc
