GTi's don't have an oil cooler as standard. You can either source the parts from a VTS or like corsa_godfather said buy the kit from mocal. Comprises of a sandwich plate which fits between the oil filter and block, stainless houses and fixins and the cooler it's self. 10 or 12 row should be fine. I think I was quoted around £100 for the kit and it's something I want in the future as my oil temp does creep up when doing 80+ on the motorway for a while.

VTS does have an oil cooler!! it doesnt have an oil radiator like aftermaket ones though. It's just a sandwich plate between the oil filter and block with 2 feeds off it which plumb into the top rad hose. The water circualtes around the plate and cools the oil, hence oil cooler. the Gti doesnt have this.

Its a water cooled oil cooler, it also helps to heat up the oil from cold as the water heats up quicker than the oil.

Once warm, the cooler running water helps to cool the oil.

as lucky B said it helps to get the oil up to temp quicker and maintains the temperature when it's there. My temp tends to creep up if i spend much time over 80 on the motorway so would be worth while.
