Right my student accomidation has a connection similar to broadband which I think basically goes through the network. I've tried bit torrent and kazaa and basically they've stopped working (which suggests ports for peer to peer is blocked)
Is there anything else I can use / do to download music/vids/software?
At home I was always downloading music, but here I keep going grr... can't download anything? or are there any good non torrent sites that have things for download like the old days of warez?

could get on the IIRC chat and find som FTP sites , in the P2P software you can specify which ports you want to use , chuck it on a port they havent blocked or sumit.
Or set up your home machine with VNC annd VNC into it download stuff then msn it to yourself.

see
http://www.realvnc.com
its like remote desktop but you can use a Interent Explorer / java client on port 80 (http port , thus they cant block it) to gain full access to your machine.
