ive just phoned my gym to try and cancel my membership. She asked the reason and my excuse was ive been ill (my reason for not going since august bank holiday) and ive lost my job. The latter is not fully true, but i have been ill, however, not to the point of not being able to go to the gym. When i said the two things to the woman on the phone she said she can cancel it through medical reasons, however, she'll need a letter from my doctor. Is she allowed to ask for this? i thought with patient confidentiality and all that she couldnt???

You may have some contractual obligation to continue the membership for some time but no, a reason is not required to process the cancellation.

Esporta is a rip off. they took over the gym im at, at new year. the gyms now about 5 years old, so its getting a bit run down. not worth the amount they charge to be honest. The majority of people that use it park their range rovers (that they got from shagging a rich bloke) over two disabled spaces, and spend the day drinking white wine & sodas in the bar. In other words, full of stuck up pricks
