At the beginning of that video, the people in front of the camera seem to be just watching a huge wave coming towards them. I'd be getting out of the way.
bet they dont understand what is actually coming at them
It's a big fuck off wave, everyone understands that's bad news.

as bad as all those deaths are i think things like this happen for a reason, to keep the worlds population down, natures way of stopping it becoming to overcrowded

the reason those people didnt run is because waves of that size in height are not uncommon, they are nearly that height in cornwall in the surfing season, the difference lies in how the wave is formed.
in a conventional wave it is created by the water running back off the shore meeting current coming in, hence there is not much quantity of water involved so the wave breaks up pretty fast,
in this wave there were bllions of tons of litres of water behind it, so the people saw the wave coming and didnt realise the quantity of water behind it, neither would you..
the most impressive pictures are not of the wave coming in but of the backwash of it leaving, it created a massive whirlpool in the sea it would of been that caused most deaths by people being dragged out to sea
a satellite captured these images do a search for them

It puts a lot into perspective about the death toll, if theres places still like this i wouldnt be suprised if the death toll reaches 150,000+
