Is there any way you can find out whether a number has been blacklisted or something, by simply just phoning the network the number is on?

Yeah but surely they would be able to tell you whether it's been blacklisted or not if you give them the number - you're not asking for personal details of the person who's number it is?

well if a phone get s nicked, they simply block the serial (imei) number of the phone, the sim is cancelled and new one issued
there used to be a automated number you could ring, this was run by t-mobile but last i heard it was down 4 maintenaince.
