On my way how last night doing a steady 40mph in 5th, the engine management light came on, engine was about to die then just picked itself back up and the light went out, so i carried on........no more than 500yds down the road, pulled up at some straffic lights and the engine just died on me this time, all electrics were on the dash, lights etc. Tried striking her back up with no go, left it ten minutes as this is the 5th time this has happened to me and it struck up........

I really dont know what it could be, someone on Mig said change the 'Module' near the coil???

I have ring wear on one of my pistons, could that cause it to die whilst i'm driving, i doubt it.....

Or am i left with the task of trying every plug and lead possible? I dont think it would be the fuel filter or anything as it never struggles when I'm giving it some right foot......

I really don't know what it is, like i've said........its happend before, its been running fine, gone t fill up with petrol, got back in the car and no go for about ten minutes............

The fcuking joy of an XE!

the "module" near the coil is probably the fuel pump relay. If you can get the car started, pull it out whenits running and see what happens. The engine will def cut out, but cant remember if electrics go too. If its the same symptoms then thats the problem, and a new one is about £20 from vaux, and is literally plug and play. you could also try cleaning the pins on it with wire wool etc and WD40, helped on mine temporarily but had to replace it in the end/

Not true, if you get a good engine theyre fine.

Read the fault codes rather than working blind.

the main problem people have when they fit the c20xe...

your buying an engine that is very old, its not gonna b reliable, to make it worth doing, ya gotta rebuild it and replace all sensors etc, 2 no its gonna b fine, the outlay is alot, but in the end its worth it...

im now in the process of doing a conversion, ive spend well over 1.5k on the engine and bits alone, let alone the time ive spent on it!!!!

ive read so many posts lately about c20xe problems, and most people seem 2 have just chucked the engine in and expect it 2 b like new, it aint gonna happen

Just flash the codes out rather than spending money on guesswork.
