hmmm, i guess no ones done it too the standard rev counter then

i dont want a whole new rev counter/tacho to mount up as im good with electronics so want to try this my self, but not too sure how the rev counter works, i have a spear one handy that i can test on, but just need lil advice were to start you see??

am i right, that i may need some sort of device/circuit that measures the rev and can send a current/signal to which i can wire the shift light??

cud u not use small electro magnets......on placed about 4500-5500rpm...and one places on the needle....and wen the go near each other the pass current and allow the shift light to light up...

?

just how i would do it.....but probably wouldnt work

Electromagnets is a daft ideal, would fail after a week.

You'd be far better taking the pulse from the coil and running that through a diode to make sure you're only getting DC, then smooth it with fairly big capacitor and transistorise the result. You may have to play about with a variable resistor to calibrate it first of all but you could swap that for a regular one when you've worked out what resistance is required.

Edit - yeah, multiple LEDs very easy also, just run different resistance on each transistor.
