does lowering the car affect the gearbox at all?

ie.
lowering car ->
more strain on driveshafts ->
gearbox develops hole and fucks up?

this is what vauxhall has said, dunno if it's true though?

are you 100% sure on that?
at the moment, they're not wanting to fix it under warranty. its my brothers car and it is lowered quite a lot.

apparently £1k+ to fix it...

What exactly is wrong with the car? Swap over the suspension and take it to a different dealership

gearbox is buggered. no drive to the car.

not really willing to swap over the suspension because its on coilovers and its bit of an arse to do it all.

also the next dealership is a fair bit away.

Hummm... Swap a set of legs over or pay out £1K + for a box

Why not just wind the coilovers up to more of a std ride height.

No it wont effect gearbox, at worst extreme lowering will pop shafts out the box or wear the wheel bearings quickly but never heard of it fucking a box...

Personally i'd swap the legs back over to std legs and get yourself the AA (if he's covered) to tow it to the next dealership... £1k is a lot of mullah

Yep i agree with Tomas. It isn't a big job swapping over suspension, but you have to work hard to earn 1k

car is the one i used to have.
1.2 16v SXi corsa C.

i wasn't in the car when gearbox went. he just phoned me and said it died when it happened. got it towed and local guy said gearbox had a hole in? something about the final drive or something...?

don't know what he's going to do. obviously not get it fixed for £1k anyway

vauxhall dealerships are complete pillacs :lol

You'd have to be very low.

Also the hole must have come from somewhere, like bits of cog or diff or something, I'd investigate damage inside there first.

My brother and I have both blown boxes up, on Astra Coupe, one Vectra GSi (twice) and Corsa Sport. None were lowered. All were driven with copious disregard for mechanical sympathy.

If the dealer really are shirking their responsibility then its worth raising a case with Vauxhall customer care, they may reconsider things, or contribute a portion if you present the facts.

Exhaust all lines of enquiry with the dealer first.
