42-47mm I think.

45 is the perfect offset.

anything between 40 and 49 is ok and you'll get away with lowering 30/40mm with 17s with little trouble.

45 is fine for anything but SRI1.8

then you ought to look at 40

something to do with the calipers i beleive

yep calipers are bigger and it's down to the design of the alloys which is why lower offset if safer... more chance of them rubbing your arches though.
