Hi engine gurus,
after e-mailing steve from SBD, I'm thinking in fitting Omega 80mm pistons and 1.6Xe into my 1.4Xe. Next stage would be TB's but not for now.
Will this hardware work with the Mantzel Powerbox, superchip and all the crap, because the pistons are inrruder ones.
what's your opinion?
P.S: Can't change my engine

So you mean turn you 1.4 in to a 1650cc and not tell the insurance?
Yeah it can be done, but the cost of having the 1.4 bore out would be more than normal cause of the amount of material being removed.
you will need to time out the cams a bit to compensate for the high CR from the pistons.

I'm portuguese and don't have to pay hefty insurance premiuns, just a miserable 137 euros per year. However if I destroy the car it's my problem!
That will be a first stage. Steve also metioned that I should change the rods for arrows ones but at 688+vat it's to much for me
J1400 is the engine reliable for 8000 rpm with standard rods?
what's your opinion?
P.S My problem is the MOT test, I'm not going to declare the engine capacity because it's very complicated to homologate the change!

standard rods... possibly yes
but replace the rod-bolts with ARP jobbies, as there the weakspot

Rods will probably be OK, but I would keep rev limit to 7500rpm max. You'll still be making nearly all your power below this anyway, especially if you don't plan to use TBs just yet. As Paul says, uprate rod bolts and don't forget cam belt tensioner too!

the std rods are meant to be good to 8250rpm continuious rpm with ARP's there, that's according to SRE who dont' tend to mince about on information.
I've been runnign a 7750 soft cut limit for over ayear and the car when driven lives bwteen 5 and the limit,(excluding warm up period) as it's purely for thrashing

nothing could be worse than our national car test... complete money making scam!
no matter what age you car is they fail it!
i kinda have the last laugh though... bring the car up let them fail it then just fix what ever they say and get it retested... costs about €50 in total and ya get yer car check over
