Is there a way of wiring up a couple of leds so that when the ignition is turned off the leds start to flash.

You need a diode or a resistor inline with your LED, you can by the with built in ones from Maplin.

you can use the nc contacts on a relay to do this. connect your ignition live to the coil of a 12v dc relay. when the ignition is off the contacts will close and you can use this to put power onto a couple of flashing LED's.

if you want flashing LEDs on your doors, invest in some door pins with leds in them (look a lot better) and just make sure there flashing jobbies (if not you need to use 555 timer chips like loo said )

Aye if you just buy normal LED's you need to use a timer, but you can buy very bright flashing ones for about £3, i can anyway.
