could this be petrol ....... I have 2.0 16v corsa it revs really high when it starts up then dies right down then goes back up on its own like its serging ????

sounds like that when you are starting it is on choke from the ecu, when this dies down the Idle Control Valve isnt working properly, try taking it off and cleaning it, its at the back of the engine, under the Inlet manifold.
