Vauxhall say to run 15w 40 oil as the engines are old, your problem is the oils to thin, and when hot it get's engine thinner making it tap.
its all good on the bottle saying 10w40 for performace engines BUT LET's are about million years old and need thick oil....
if i was your......
get a new oil filter and change that and run 15w40 and the tapping will stop i 100% promise you, unless you have a noisy lifter......
and it that dont work take your old tappets out, put them in thinners over night, then the next night put them in some clean thick oil. put them back in an your sorted........
Saves your the price of tappets, as i have fitted brand new GM ones and still been really tappy. ended up changing them again....

Surely the w rating only affects the viscocity when cold, so the 40 means it's the same when hot.
But putting in 15w-40 should reduce tapping because it get trapped in the tappets better being thicker when cold.
Stopping being lazy and clean the tappets up
