My pc is running very slow and i have a few virus`s i cant get rid of, so if i format my pc will it be like when i got my pc ? all memory back ect?

so what do i do to format my pc?

i have xp pro and a hp pc.

put xp cd in drive

reboot pc, boot from cd rom

delete partition, create new - format - install

then start installing everything again

so i put the xp cd in , and restart my pc? what do you mean from cd rom?

and whats the delete patition and stuff about? will it come up on my screen when i start my pc up again?


i only have my laptop cd will that be ok for my pc?

the guy told me that my pc had xp built into it and i dont need any discs , i take it this is bullshit?

yeah hes talking shite, prob means your pc had xp pre installed on it

reboot, and go into set up on the reboot screen - f2 or f8 usually

change the boot sequance so the cd drive is before the harddrive

once it boots from the cd, u will understand the rest

a product key , i just have 2 cds that came with the laptop, both copies and say e system and a 4 digit number

or i have another cd that says advent system recovery cd rom , and it says XP Home english

Should be a lisence sticker on the side of the machine? Use that.

not sure if these are bootable, didnt use to be, do you have an 'advent recovery floppy disc' too?

he might not have been talkin shoot when he said that xp was built in on the pc as most new pc's come with the recovery software in an image on the hardrive so there are no disks needed, e.g HP pc's that i sold when i worked at staples had this feature to re-install windows all you needed to do was go into the start menu and choose the folder for "recovery" and click the recovery icon shortcut this would re-install windows from the image on the harddrive.

He may need to change the BIOS settings mind to get it to boot??

Cant you install from in windows.

It does a couple things a reboots itself.

If you havent got a clue a PC shop or mate might be an idea.

yes u can install from in windows, but i prefer to do it from booting up
