How do you take a pic so that everything is in Focus and not just the item in the foreground?
Make it simple please, I'm just starting out.

use a small aperture.
f2.8 large aperture shallow depth of field
F11 small aperture large depth of field
also the closer you are the more pronouced effect you get from shallow DOF.

If your camera has an aperture priority mode, use that and set aperture to a big number as Ross says, f11 or more, you may not need that much or you may need more depending on the size of the scene and your distance from it, and you'll need lots of light. The pic will blur if you need a slow shutter so either light it artificially or use a tripod or support.
