Done quite a bit of painting with cans now, but wouldn't mind trying bigger areas such as my boot .

Obviously can't do this with cans , so would probably like to buy an airbrush in the near future .

What can you recomend . I don't want to spend more than £100 as I could be shit at painting with the airbrush so don't want to waste money .

Also , where do you get paint , and is it difficult to mix etc ?

Cheers

airbrush would probably take forever to paint a boot and large areas, bettre with just a normal spray gun. you can get a compressor and gun for about 80 quid but theyre nothing special, if your not all that good at it then whats to stop you selling it on

paint you can get at your local halfords in half litre and litre tins

im still trying to find out what to use to clean the guns and where i would get that though

a cellulose paint should be thinned 50/50 with a cellulose thinner and requires no hardeners

Ive just sprayed my boot for the first time, i sprayed it using a compressor and a gun, and its came out really good considering ive never ever even held a spray gun before! Theres no runs or marks in the paint work at all, and i only done it in the garage!

From the sounds of things mate you are pretty clueless an don't have much of an idea about painting/spraying so i would recommend you don't try it and leave it to the professionals

Nah I have sprayed things before with excellent results (see GSi spoiler in garage) but obviously want to make sure of something before going ahead and doing it .

Most people turn around and say leave it to the pros , but the only way your going to learn is by doing it yourself .

Very true but most people who want to learn themsleves read up or go to a paint shop and ask advice not ask about painting bootlids with an airbrush my only point is get more info before tryin cos a gun is much different from a rattle can

If it goes badly, take the paint off and do it again.

If you give up, get a professional to do it. No biggie.

it is tho, saying dont even bother leave it to a pro. best way to learn is to ask questions. if you dont you will never know! he says he has had good results with can, now spraying with a gun is totally different but if he can master than maybe he can master the gun!

Spot on this is how I am learning, I mastered a spray can, and then used a gun, its not that much different tbh, I've just sprayed a bootlid with very good results, if you dont ask questions you will never know, why give your car to a professional and give them alot of money for it when he can learn himself and do as much spraying as he wants in the future, he only asked for advice, if you cant give it then dont reply

That last bit was to that borncorsa lad

shut up.

escortgti, you can buy cheap kits form argos, and ebay etc.... get a cheap compresser and gun to start with just to see if you can get the knack of it, practice on small stuff, like spoilers, wingmirrors, door handles etc, if its any good then maybe advance onto decent guns and compressors..
