ok...... i no its a 1.4 sport engine but after looking at quiet a few differnt engine bays and also having bought one, i was wonderin what this yellow grimey stuff is on the plastic engine cover?? if peals off but its all over the place
any ideas??

my SRI was the same an couldnt get it off. i scrubbed with every sorta househjold cleaner you could imagine!
its just stains and ware combine with grease and oil crap i think
correct me if im wrong!

just general crap that builds up, probably peeling off the crappy laquer finish on it

Its a wax that they put on the engine when it comes out of the factory to stop it corroding and to keep it looking clean.
If its not cleaned off tho, the engine gets hot and eventually bakes it on. You can get it off with some strong solvents but you run the risk of removing the paint as well. Just take it easy!

take it off with petrol. or carb cleaner works as well.

cheers i'll be sanding down and spraying the cover this wkend anyway, wana get it off the inlet tho!

What do you mean by the inlet? The actual inlet manifold and not the cover?

Get some solvents and take your time with it and you should be able to get it off everything.

the yellow shit is laquer, you find that alot of folks spray it all over the place to make the engine look good... shame when it gets old and grimey it looks shite.
mines was the exact same mate, i just sanded it down and painted it gloss black.. totaly changes the bay for the better!

just respray the cover yourself and get vauxhall batch or whatever can look gud

it took me 20 mins to get it looking like this:

did the plastic bit with petrol, metal inlet with drill& brass brush atachment.

still needed a bit of a clean up, but ok for 20mins work!
