It happens completley randomly sometimes you turn the key and it just splutters struggles a bit then dies. If you try again giving it a bit on the accelerator then it starts Not sure what the problem could be does anybody know?

is it when its cold???
what engine??
could just be a bit of damp, might be worth checking plugs/leads & dizzy cap/rotor arm if its got one...

fuel blockage? you tried changing fuel filter and a using fuel system cleaner

It usually happens when the engine is warm although sometimes when cold. I haven't looked at the fuel filter but if it's a blockage would putting red ex through it help?

Get a new fuel filter, they don't cost much.

my car did this. it used to not start up randomly and id leave it c0ome bakc to it and it starts.
but sumtimes itd start second time mite take 6 hours it was so random. then i used to bash the engine bay around fiddle wi wires and it wud usually start it up.
until once it wudnt start up even after doin that and me bat died from trying too much so called aa and they fixed it straight away lol it wa a plug that wa slightly loose and he sprayed stuff in it reconnected it and it starts all the time lol. i had a year of that prob i used to be well worried everytime id start car.
the plug btw wa the one next to the air filter. u know the two fat plastic tubes connectin to one? its the plug under it.
