It could be that your amp isnt a good match for your sub. I attached my amp to my mates sub a while back and it kept cutting out, my amp was giving his sub far more power than it could take. Dont know why it did this but it could be a similar thing

No one needs a power cap, they are as pointless as 6x9s.
Best things to do:
•Run 4 guage or bigger to the boot to a distribution block.
•Where the earth is connected to the chassis sand away any paint so the earth is connected to bare metal.
•Check you battery and alternator voltages.
•Maybe do the big three (Batt -ve to chassis, Batt + to Alternator + and Alternator -ve to earth) with 2 guage cable.

Ive just read this again and realised it was the other way round to what I said above!
It was my sub running off his amp and it was drawing too much power for his amp to cope with so it kept shutting itself down
