buy a haynes manual.
Clicking is normally associated with CV's, but are YOU sure its not something simple catching on a rotating surface?
You said in your other post that you felt it through the transmission (gear stick)... can you also feel when using the clutch?
It could be a number of things.... joints, bearings.
Does the car still turn ok? I had a clicking noise from the TRANSMISSION on my x14xe with F13.... turned out the diff was fucked. Replaced the whole gearbox

ps.... pistons fo really ''go" as such.... not on a low powered NA car anyway..... maybe the piston rings..... but you would be burning oil, pretty visable
You could also get a knocking noise if you're big end bearing are gone. But without the car, and going by your descriptions its pot luck chief

i'm not a mechanic, neither own a garage so i cant give you a quote
Why dont you check if there is oil in the gearbox? (BUY A HAYNES)
I doubt that would be the cause of 'clicking' it would be more whining/grinding
A hazzard a guess at a fucked diff.... are you hard on the car?
gearbox from scrappy/breaker is £50 or there abouts

.... that'll be why then.
Not being nasty or spiteful, but you dont sound too technically minded. Take the car to a garage. They should be able to tell you whats wrong with it for free. That is going to be some much simpler than us trying to guess whats up.

if it goes completly you'll have trouble on corners
A diff sorts out the wheels in corners.... i.e 1 wheel NEEDS to travel less (inside wheel) than the other..... without a working diff turning will be hard to say the least
