my gt....

i wanna put the coupe brakes on te front ony problem is the calipers wont fit..

the only way they will fit is if i grind the mountings off he caliper, reposition them and weld them back on..


will this be strong enough?

depends how good you are at welding..... weld is strong, often its stronger than the origianal metal..... but calipers are cast alloy yes? ally welding is hard...

cast alloy i have no idea - i think they are cast iron

they certainly weigh alot more than what i would expect alloy to weigh

they the brenbo calipers? most 4 pots are made of alloy(aluminium) as its lighter....

no there not they are the 16vt calipers the 20vt ones are brembos tho

the weld yes... but surely the metal around the weld can be weakened?? or is this not true? i used to work alot with setam pipework which was welded.... so know a bit.....

if undercut occurs then the metal around the weld will indeed be weakened. If done properly the surrounding are should be fairly strong

Why not make a lug for them to fit to - a plate that mounts to the knuckle & then to the radial caliper, you would however need to shim the disk out from the swivel hub...

first of all imagine the disc has been removed



then this pic is a side shot of how the caliper mounts to the hums brackets



now if you put the couple caliper on, the calipers brakets need to sit were the hubs brackets are.



so it doesnt matter what sort of brakets you build your caliper still wont sit right until the hubs mountings have dissapeard.
