i removed my "very good safety feature" because i feel it would cause more damage to me..... in its place i fitted an fia cage harnesses and buckets....
to remove the drivers air bag i disconnected the battery left it a while, then i just unscrewed it and pulled it off, being very careful! not done a passenger one yet

i really dont get this leaving the battery disconnected thing.
Just unscrew it and unplug it. Replaced loads of airbags and never had a problem!

its just incase. the air bag system has capicitors it in, leave the battery disconnected for a while and they die down so the air bag system has no electrical current in it, also when working with anything electrical in the car its best to disconnect the battery....
