I had 18"s that were 7.5" wide. Only the rear arches needed to be cut.

Did they need to be flared or anything like that? Or just some of the metal trimmed away?
What suspension were you running? Coilovers? What ET were the wheels too.

Made some calculations some day...
If 7" is ET49
7.5" should be not higher that ET42
8" should be not higher that ET36
9" should be not higher that ET23
...so the inner space between the wheel and dumper will be the same and will not rubb.

Well they are ET40.
7.5" x 16" ET40 4x100
Think i'll be ok then?

You'll be alright but u'll be better stretching some 195 tyres over them and not 205's.

I had ET40's on my corsa, then realised i would need to cut arches, so i put them on my brothers nova instead & bought myself some different wheels with ET49

195 isnt much ov a strech over 7.5s but then they are th smallest width you can get in 16"
iv got 205s streched over 9" now thats a stretch

Used to have 7.5 x 16" ET 45 Alloys with 195/45/16 tyres, they were fine.
