Like a tappety noise from the inlet side of the head... too loud to be injectors, a fresh oil filter and oil change hasn't stopped it at all... i need the thing to run till after chrimbo at least. Got a set of x16 cams spare. Does this sound like i have a knackered camshaft

hydraulic lifters will make a tappety sound when they are being starved of oil. is it only when you startup from cold?

tapps when cold then settles but this noise is constant and different from the initial tappet noise, may just pull the cam cover off and have a squint

do you know when your cambelt idler pulley was last replaced with the timing belt???
could be that being dodgy, as sounds like a problem broster had a good while ago!!

was replaced with an sbd item about 4k miles ago, i did skimp on the water pump though

about 80-85k, its outta there after chrimbo anyway, i'm just fanatical about noises that shouldn't be there

could be low oil pressure causing a couple of the lifters not to pump up properly

could possibly be the water pump ????
timing belt tensioners ???
also have u checked to see if your SPARK PLUGS are tight?this happened on my gti.made a cunt of a ticking noise in the end up it was because my spark plugs had loosened off
