hmm, i might need to replace mine, so should i have any problems or adverse effects of taking the rear axle off a lower model?

the rear beam is the same across the board.... the sway bar might be a little thincker in the gsi model.... just transfer this to whatever rear beam your get...
what is wrong with your current beam?

on the drivers side the is a slightly bigger gap between the top of the tyre and the arch as compared to the passenger side, mechanic suggested possible bent rear axle, so i am just getting some info together if i decide to have him change it.
people dont realy notice it unless i point it out, but everytime i walk passed the car it look out by a few feet and annoys the crap out of me

its know where near a major issue atm, got a lot of other things to sort out first. it doesn't seem to be effect the cat at all (the rare occasions i get the thing driving), but if plans go ahead to get the it running properly again i will have to sort it, or go slowly insane everytime i go to sit into it.
but i will get my mechanic to have a look, cheers sri

this mechanic of yours seem pretty drastic to me....
knocking engine = rebuild
slightly higher gap between the wheel arch = bend axel

maybe one of your springs is bust?

yeah, seems drastic, but having fun finding anyone local to look at it and he is very efficient (sp)!!! and only up the road from where the car is now parked. and he comes very highly recommended all around town.
i reckon i will go with the remanucfactored engine, not going to get anyone to rebuild if for cheaper and least then it will be under warranty
