Just been doing a bit of diging and i reckon there is about 40kg difference in weight up front between the 2 set ups. So the x16 will hanfle better yes, but I would love to se what a well set up 20xe could do!

about as much as you have spend getting you c20xe to produce 156!

I only went to bed for a few hours and your bickering like school girls Nice to see some good old debate going on, I was aiming the thread towards experienced chaps, was at work wondering really which would be the best overall all setup including handling, power, speed, costs etc I think we have come to the conclusion that the 1.6 dominates on the track, although I will one day have to see for myself. As for the c16xe and the x16xe, I guess thats preference?

c16xe has more potential, but i think its neglegable to be honest. so yes as you say preference

dont quite understand what you mean? the 2.0 has that power as standard so you dont have to spend anything to make it produce that and I doubt very much 180bhp from a 1.6 costs nothing

Dont believe this for a minute, unless your x16 starts as a minter and your c20 a nail! im asuming if you are going to be using a car for trackdays you will be rebuilding it first anyway!!

how much have you spent on your c20xe aritchie? how much does an average conversion cost for a c20xe? drive in drive out is £1500, with an engine thats not rebuilt yes? so lets say 2500 for it rebuilt ot standard?

id say drive in drive out rebuilt woud cost in the region 2.5 k yeah
but then plenty of £1500 conversion cars have made good std power

another point maybe worth making is a 130k mile engine c20xe probably wont be making 156bhp anymore.

ive seen a few in my time making 140bhp and even a local one made 133bhp.

In all fairness the older they get the better they get.

I see an Astra GTE 16v bloddy falling apart it was, 210,000 miles on it - bang 156bhp!!!!

Tb's all the way
the noise is immense
the revs pick up a hell of alot faster, well mine did
all in all i found it more fun to drive

hense the £3k bill for the new engine

if the weight diff is 40 kg upfront
drop the bonnet to grp ones
cut out unwanted metal "yes ive gone crazy with a grinder"
move batterey, washer bottle to more centralised position low down in the car
and stich weld it i rekon handling wll be pretty much the same
