When I start the car, the EML comes on. It stays on for a couple of minutes, and when it does go off, tends to do so only on a time when I back off the throttle. But then turn the car off, then start it again and the light is back on.
Also, even when the EML has gone off, if I boot it a bit, then back off the throttle, the revs seem to stay the same for a second, but go up and down a little bit very quickly.
Apart from the light on, all this is hardly noticable, I've just been studdying the car all day trying to see what the fuck is happening.
Seems to me, it could be the ICV not releasing properly.
What you think?

Dude your gonna waste so much time and money guessing whats wrong with your car. Bite the bullet and go to vaux for the diagnostics bullshit.
If you wanna try cleaning the ICV, ive got some stuff for it (which is useless to me now Ive got a Derv apparently) so feel free to come use it, will save you a few quid.

I had a look at that paper clip test, and I think I'd rather take it to vaux, looks way to complicated.

quote: Please note on newer ECU cars in the region of 2000 onwards, most now use ECU codes which can not be read out via the paper clip method. You will have to consult a ECU/fault code specialist or your nearest Vauxhall/Opel Dealer.

how is it a waste of time? it flashes the fault codes and tells you what sensors are playing up. ive done the paperclip test on literally 30-40 vauxhalls and saved people hundreds of pounds. now is that a waste of time? who is the most sensible? someone who uses a method which costs them nothing or someone who pays a rip-off car deale £40 for 5 minutes labour?
go figure
